It all started when…

I was running for my high school track team when I first realized the fascinating effects of nutrition - there was a clear performance improvement when I switched up my pre-race fuel! This simple recognition took full flight and eventually led me to pursue a bachelor’s degree in nutrition science, a master’s degree in public health, and a rewarding career as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN).

My first few years as an RDN were spent working with veterans at the VA outpatient nutrition clinic in Long Beach and teaching undergraduate nutrition courses at local colleges and universities. I opened the doors to SoCal Nutrition & Wellness at the end of 2009 so that I could offer more time and attention in one-on-one consultations, provide services to the community at large, continue to teach nutrition to college students, and have the opportunity to take on unique consulting projects.

My experience in this field extends from individual nutrition counseling across a wide range of ages, cultures, and abilities to leading small and large group workshops to teaching undergraduate and graduate-level nutrition classes. I’ve had the opportunity to present at professional conferences in front of hundreds of other clinicians and to work one-on-one with dietetic interns. From these experiences, I’ve learned to translate complex nutrition information into user-friendly information for a variety of audiences. I am frequently asked to consult with local medical and mental health practices, businesses, schools, parent groups, sports teams, and have even served as an expert witness for a legal case.

I’ve had the pleasure of working with people from all walks of life. Each individual has a unique story that has shaped their relationship with food and their body image. My passion lies in hearing that story and helping people forge a unique path to the improved well-being they seek. I am especially passionate about weight-inclusive care. In this regard, I work alongside clients who have been harmed by diet culture and impossible food and weight-based directives to find a workable, realistic solution that is not rooted in restriction.

When I am not counseling or consulting, I enjoy spending time with my family, reading, eating delicious food, and enjoying the SoCal sunshine.
