Back to School!

It’s that time again - kids are heading back to school! For some families, that means getting back to packing lunches after a summer off. When my kids were younger, I’d arm their lunchboxes with new lunchbox cards suited to help teachers and lunch aides know I’d like my kids to have a pressure-free meal experience. In addition, I started added language about food allergies for my son after a preschool incident where he was asked to clean up spilled milk, which he is allergic to. It was only when he subsequently broke out in itchy, red hives all over that his teachers realized that not only can he not eat dairy, but he also cannot touch it. I guess I thought that was a given, but will never make that assumption again! These cards were originally developed by Katja Rowell,MD and appear in her book “Extreme Picky Eating.” The examples below were modified to suit my family at the time, and I welcome you to modify them to suit yours. I would simply print them out in small squares, laminate them, and attach to the lunchbox. Happy back to school!
