Carrots are NOT high in Sugar

I've lost count of the number of times I've heard the statement "carrots are high in sugar." I'm not sure who started this rumor (likely, diet culture), but in the interest of carrots everywhere, I'd like to do some myth-busting.⠀

Nutrition facts about carrots:

  • Excellent source of Vitamin A (as beta carotene), which is an antioxidant. Antioxidants fight free radicals formed from everyday metabolism (like breathing), exercise, pollution, etc. ⠀

  • Good source of Vitamin C, another antioxidant nutrient. ⠀

  • Good source of fiber. Just one 7-inch carrot contains approximately 8% of one’s daily fiber needs.⠀

  • Contains a small amount of naturally occurring sugars, like ALL plant foods. ⠀

So, if you like the taste of carrots, please eat them! They taste great in a variety of ways - with a dip, cooked in a soup, plain and raw. ⠀

How do you like to eat carrots? Has this carrot myth affected your desire to eat them? ⠀

PS: Baby carrots are simply peeled and cut carrots. Despite what myths may surround them, they are just a convenient, ready to eat carrot option!
