There are many Root Causes of Diabetes. Spoiler: Sugar intake is not one of them!⠀

Diabetes is a complex disease that may develop for a myriad of reasons. Here are some factors which may be root causes for the development of Diabetes: ⠀
- Weight Cycling⠀
- Living in a Food Desert (i.e., limited access to fresh fruits/veggies and other nutrient dense foods)⠀
- Poverty⠀
- Trauma⠀
- Poor Sleep⠀
- Chronic Stress⠀
- Nutrient Deficiencies (esp. Vitamin D and Magnesium)⠀
- Socio economic status (SES)⠀
- (Lack of) Access to Medical Care⠀
- Weight Stigma⠀
- Physical Inactivity (this is not always voluntary!)⠀
- Environmental Exposures (such as pollution)⠀
- Genetics⠀
- Medication Side Effects (such as statins, steroids)⠀
- Food Insecurity⠀
